Nestle said it expects an improvement in sales and profitability in the second half of 2018 as it seeks to assuage activist shareholder Third Point, with its infant formula business helping second-quarter results.

Daimler warned lower earnings at Mercedes-Benz passenger cars will extend into the third quarter because of higher trade barriers hitting its range of sport utility vehicles sold in China and struggles with a new emissions regime in the European Union.

Intu Properties said that it swung to a pretax loss for the first half of the year and said separately that long-serving Chief Executive David Fischel will leave the company once a successor has been appointed.
