Today's Closing Update

U.S. Stocks dropped, pulling the U.S.30 down more than 300 points, as anxiety over the health of technology behemoths rippled across the market.

European Stocks were lower, led by a sell-off in technology stocks after earnings and M&A news from German heavyweights Infineon and SAP, and tobacco was hit by new signs of U.S. regulators tightening the screws on menthol cigarettes.

The pound has rebounded in afternoon trading in response to a report that the main elements of a Brexit treaty text are ready to present to the UK cabinet on Tuesday. Sterling regained some ground after a Financial Times report cited the EU’s main Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier.

Apple shares fell after one of its facial recognition suppliers cut its outlook, citing a reduced shipment request from a large customer. Lumentum, a manufacturer that makes lasers capable of sensing in 3-D, announced the reduced outlook Monday

Playtech stuck to its most recent full-year guidance, though trading in Asia weighed. Ebitda for 2018 was still expected to reach between €320m and €360m, the company said. In the business-to-business gaming division, revenue growth outside Asia was good.

Wood Group told investors it has landed three new contracts in the United Arab Emirates, with a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). The contracts are to provide project management consultancy services for major projects at onshore fields in Abu Dhabi as ADNOC advances growth programmes targeting production capacity of 4mln barrels of oil per day by 2020.

Oil prices rose, set for its largest one-day increase in a month after Saudi Arabia said OPEC and its partners believed demand was softening enough to warrant an output cut of 1 million barrels per day.

Gold prices fell, hitting its lowest in a month as the dollar jumped to 16-month highs on the back of political uncertainty in Europe and the U.S. Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance on interest
