I am a trainee stockbroker at CSS Investments and I am about to undertake a physically and mentally tough challenge for a genuinely great charity.
I’m going to be trekking 100km across the Brecon Beacons, solo, for Together for Short Lives. This challenge will be one of the toughest things I have taken on, as I will be continuously trekking for 20+hours across mountains and the general extreme conditions of the Brecon Beacons.
After completing the Three Peaks challenge in 24hours last year, I decided this year I would step it up and increase the toughness and test my mental and physical strength even further. The photo below is one of the shots I took whilst doing the challenge
The Brecon Beacons is the chosen testing ground for one of the most revered fighting forces in the world – the Special Air Service. The Beacons has built a reputation for being the ideal place to test some of the world’s toughest men in one of the infamous challenges climbing the Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons.
This infamous route has long been a part of SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) Selection and is considered the yardstick of a candidate’s potential to perform well on Test Week and ultimately pass the Special Forces Selection programme.
Following on from this, the reason for taking part in this challenge is a test of my mental and physical strength more than anything. I once read if you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. (Bruce Lee)
Lastly, the charity that I am raising money for “Together for Short Lives” are a unique charity that CSS Investments have recently partnered with, the charity is the leading UK charity for all children with life-shortening illnesses and those who support, love and care for them. They also support families, professionals as well as other services including all children’s hospices. They ensure that every child gets the best possible care whenever and wherever they need it.
I have set up a Justgiving donation page which you can find here. My initial target is an easily achievable £400, due to the popular success and generosity of our readers in the previous charity event, I ask that you dig deep again for me this time and help me to help the charity!
You can also text to donate, simply text the number: ‘70070’ – with this exact wording, as below:
This immediately donates £5 from your mobile phone straight to my Justgiving Page!
I was once taught to use a mantra or recite a quote when faced with a daunting task, just to remind you of the reward on the other side.
“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”
(T. E. Lawrence)
